Dengue is rising in Bangladesh

The dengue situation in the country remains alarming, with three more deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

In the same 24-hour period, 928 people infected with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease have been admitted to hospitals across the country.

This data was released on Thursday (October 30) in a report by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room.

Distribution of New Cases (Past 24 Hours):

The 928 new dengue patients (from 8 AM Wednesday to 8 AM Thursday) were admitted as follows, showing the widespread nature of the outbreak:

• Dhaka Metropolitan Hospitals: 345

• Dhaka Division (outside city corporation): 194

• Barisal Division: 120

• Chattogram Division: 88

• Khulna Division: 46

• Mymensingh Division: 56

• Rajshahi Division: 63

• Rangpur Division: 13

• Sylhet Division: 3

Cumulative 2024 Data (So Far):

According to DGHS, the overall toll for this year is quite high:

• Total Dengue Deaths: 278 individuals have tragically lost their lives to dengue.

• Total Hospitalizations: A staggering 69,356 people have been hospitalized with dengue so far this year.

  • The high number of daily admissions and the rising death toll underscores the seriousness of this public health crisis.
